Propecia
A man who is searching for the >best
hair loss products needs to know know that the drug named Propecia
contains a DHT blocker. How can a DHT
blocker help to prevent hair loss? The chemical in Propecia
that blocks the formation of DHT is called Finasteride.
Finasteride interferes with a particular biochemical reaction, a
reaction catalyzed by the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. The reaction
catalyzed by 5-alpha-reductase leads to DHT
production.
In the presence of DHT, that same chemical binds to the roots of
hairs in the scalp. As the scalp hair in any man become covered
with DHT they are deprived of valuable blood. In the absence of
nutient-rich blood, the hairs in the scalp die and fall out.
The biochemical pathway described above can not be found in the
scalp of an adult female. It can only be found in the scalp of certain
older men. Men who have a large amount of the proper androgen hormone
normally initiate the chain of reactions that lead to formation
of DHT. A series of biochemical changes transform that androgen
into testosterone.
Testosterone has two roles in a man’s body. First, it initiates
the changes that change a small boy into a virile, adult male. Later,
when that same male becomes older, the testosterone binds to the
5-alpha-reductase in the scalp. That binding action triggers the
biochemical reaction that is responsible for formation of DHT which
causes
hair loss.
In the absence of Propecia, testosterone can combine with 5-aphpa
reductase. Normally the mixing of testosterone and 5-alpha-reductase
leads to formation of DHT. In the presence of Propecia, the biochemistry
of scalp hairs undergoes important changes. Due to those changes,
the hairs of the scalp can not produce DHT. In the absence of DHT,
the hairs of the treated scalp enjoy a longer period of growth.
This is a similar process to what Provillus and Procerin hair loss
treatments offer.
Men must realize that any drug that acts to alter a particular
biochemical reaction could have the ability to impede or accelerate
other body reactions. Physicians are all to aware of that possibility.
That then explains why any man who wants to try Propecia must get
a prescription for the drug from his physician.
If a man finds that his physician agrees to give him a prescription
for Propecia, then he must make every effort to follow the directions
on the Propecia package. Failure to adhere to the directions on
any prescription medication reduces the likelihood that that same
drug should deliver its anticipated effect.
