Prevention
There are many things that can cause hair loss. Some of these are medications, stress, lack of protein or iron in the diet, or even the way you wear your hair. There are certain medications that tend to cause hair loss so if your doctor prescribes a new mediation you might want to ask him about this side effect before beginning the medication.
Diets that are low in protein may also cause hair loss. With more and more people going to a vegetarian diet they sometimes forget that protein is a needed for healthy bones and body tissue. Protein also promotes healthy fingernails and hair. Adding protein to the diet could be all of the protection you need to keep your hair healthy and protect you from hair loss. Vegetarians will find that there are ways to get protein without eating meat. If you simply refuse to eat meat then you should research ways to get the amount of protein you need to provide you with healthy bones and healthy hair.
Another nutrient that can contribute to hair loss is the lack of sufficient iron. Iron is needed to promote healthy blood cells and blood circulation is key to healthy hair care. Rich blood that is loaded with iron provides healthy tissue as well as healthy hair and nails.
Certain hair styles are conducive to hair loss. Styles that pull the hair tight against the head can put enough pressure on the scalp to make the hair follicle turn loose of the hair. Common styles are ponytails and pigtails. Other styles that pull the hair tightly are braided corn rows that are braided tightly next to the scalp. Also styles that require “teasing” of the hair to make it look fuller will also cause damage to the hair follicle and may cause hair loss. For hair loss prevention you should look at all of these suggestions to determine if any of them apply to you. The sooner you change what is wrong the better chance you have at keeping a healthy head of hair.
For men the problem of hair loss might not be as simple as with women. Men tend to have male pattern baldness which does not affect the woman. If men have hair loss in their immediate family it may be worth their time to try some hair loss prevention for men. Before the hairline begins receding try getting on a hair loss treatment that has helped to regrow hair in some men. Getting to the problem early before the symptoms begin will often prevent the onset entirely.
As with women, men will also benefit from a diet that has enough protein and iron. Taking care of their hair and only using the highest quality of products will also help keep the hair and scalp healthy. As has been said many times, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Get on top of the situation before you see any symptoms and you will have a good chance at keeping a full head of hair.
