Proper Care for your Hair
Cutting across geographical divides, people in almost every corner
of the world spend a considerable amount of money on hair care products
and treatments. What is disturbing is the fact that some of these
efforts are not too smooth and at times harmful for the hair too.
And, as hair grows at a snail’s pace of just about one-half
inch a month, it can take an endless wait to get a damaged hair replaced.
A proper hair care is essential for healthy
hair. We all have different hair types and textures, and the care
needed for our hair will depend on its nature.
Those having dry hair should avoid regular perming, coloring, or
exposure to pool water. It is also wise to stay away from heated
rollers, hairdryers, and curling irons. For dry hair, it is good
to use a leave-in conditioner before going for a swim and use a
deep-conditioner at least once a week. If you have greasy hair,
use a suitable shampoo to maintain the balance of oils. It produces
good results if you wash your hair on alternate days and massage
it gently while applying shampoo. A short or blunt haircut is extremely
suitable for fine or thin
hair. It is better to use conditioner on the ends only to avoid
weighing down your fine hair and causing a flat appearance. For
those having curly hair, the use of a wide-toothed comb is beneficial.
It is also better to use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners
to make it reflect light better. If you have thick hair, you need
special care to rinse hair thoroughly in order to reach hair roots
and clean clogged pores.
Selecting the right conditioner or shampoo for your hair can be
a matter of trial and error. Some shampoos or conditioners may make
your hair limp, while others may even dull it with a film. It gives
excellent results if you opt for two different brands of shampoo
and conditioner that are right for you, and use them alternately.
A quality shampoo will leave your hair manageable, easy-to-comb
and glossy. Most shampoos
these days are synthetic detergents called surfactant and are better
than the older ones. Today’s conditioners mostly contain cationic
quaternary ammonium compounds that make hair more manageable. Diet
also plays an important role in your scheme of hair care. It has
been found that regular, well-rounded meals are best for you and
your hair. Contrary to popular belief, consuming extra protein or
amino acid preparations do not boost hair growth. Iron deficiency,
due to inadequate consumption of red meat or heavy menstrual bleeding
in women, may cause hair loss. Crash diets and other types of eating
disorders such as anorexia nervosa can also seriously damage your
hair.
