What makes a good hair transplant candidate?

Before you can get a hair transplant, the surgeon always evaluates you. The surgeon wants a good hair transplant candidate. How do you know you are a good hair transplant candidate? This explains the basics of being a good candidate. However, it is not to be used in place of medical advice.

A good hair transplant candidate understands the process of balding and the limitations of the hair transplant. There are some circumstances where hair transplant will not work. Even if everything goes right, the hair transplant may still not work. A good candidate understands this and is willing to accept the uncertainty of the procedure.

A good candidate also has tried other remedies and those have failed. All too often a young man, maybe25 or younger, simply doesn’t want to be bald anymore and thinks that hair transplant surgery will be the answer to his problems. However, hair transplant surgery requires that other treatments have been tried and failed, that the cause of baldness is known, and that there is a donor. It is not a magic pill that cures all baldness. If this is not understood by the patient, then a doctor is unlikely to perform the surgery.

There are some medical conditions that will disqualify you from transplant surgery. If you have a diseased scalp, then transplant surgery is not for you. The reason you are loosing your hair is because your scalp is diseased, and transplant surgery will not cure this.

Make sure that you talk to your doctor and have a good relationship with the surgeon you choose. Hair transplant surgery is surgery. Be sure you understand all the risks and rewards before undergoing the procedure.
