Androgenic Hair Loss
Androgenic hair loss is referred to as the most common types of
baldness, which is the slow progression of baldness usually found
in men. It is also sometimes referred to as male pattern baldness,
and on occasion, Androgenic Alopecia. Although it can sometimes
affect females, it usually only affects the males.
Androgen is a term which is used for any natural or synthetic hormone
which will stimulate growth. Often it is referred to as a steroid
hormone which is used for development of masculine characteristics.
Testosterone is known as an androgenic and is the hormone produced
by the male which gives him the male characteristics such as small
breast and larger muscles than the female. Androgens and hair loss
go hand in hand because hair loss is often the result of a decrease
in the androgens produced by the body.
There are several ways that people deal with androgenic hair loss.
Some people deal with it as a part of everyday life and don’t
worry about it. Men especially learn to deal with androgenic hair
loss because many of them expect it early in life. It seems to be
inherited in families and usually only affects the male. The loss
usually begins with a receding hairline and over time spreads to
the entire top of the head. Often the hair around the perimeter
of the head does not fall out but may thin.
For some, hair loss is a devastating event. They will stop at nothing
to prevent it. There are many hair loss treatments on the market
that men will try to prevent the receding hairline or balding head.
When they find that over the counter treatments do not work many
will often go to the extreme and undergo hair surgery or hair implants
/ restoration.
It has generally been determined it is easier to deal with androgenic
hair loss early in life than later. It is easier to prevent hair
loss than it is to regrow hair once it is gone. Once hair falls
out the follicles will go dormant and reduces the chance of growing
more hair. For people who have androgenic hair loss in their family
they should start early trying to prevent their own hair loss. There
are preventive treatments that can be used that have proven to be
somewhat successful in keeping the follicles alive.
Preventing hair loss is not always cheap but can be managed with
generic hair loss products. Studies have shown that some generic
products work just as well as name brand products when used properly.
The key is to not give up. Hair loss does not happen over night
and it is not going to go away over night. You must have patience
and be persistent. It may take several months before you see any
indication that your treatment is working.
