Aldactone is a synthetic drug that is given as a diuretic. Diuretics are generally used to treat patients who have heart failure because is reduces the amount of fluid around the heart and lungs. The same drug is also often used in treating hair loss.

Aldactone medication is often given to both men and women in the treatment of hormone therapy. Aldactone and hair loss treatment is commonly seen for men who are transsexual and do not want to suffer the loss of hair that many men experience. Aldactone works by decreasing the excretion of potassium and increasing the excretion of water and sodium. It usually takes several days to work effectively and it is also slow to diminish once treatment has ceased. When taken orally it is absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract fairly quickly. The body eliminates the drug through the urine which gives it a shorter lifespan. This is the reason it should be taken daily for a long period of time.

People who take aldactone have less risks for heart disease and will usually have less frequent visits to the hospital. This makes it an added bonus when you also consider it helps prevent hair loss and acne.

Along with decreased hair loss, aldactone also seems to increase one’s ability to think clearly. Many studies show that it has reduced the symptoms of attention deficit disorder and may even help prevent Alzheimer’s.

Aldactone medication is often used for treatment of hair loss in women if they are not taking another type of diuretic. It is not commonly recommended for men because it can have adverse side effects such as impotence, breast enlargement, and a decreased sex drive. This does not seem to be as prevalent in women as it does in men. For women who are taking aldactone medication it is usually recommended that they take it in the morning hours so that they can hydrate themselves throughout the day.
